I was so excited to take my Swedish friend, Maggan, to my favorite jewelry store in Sonoma while she was visiting over the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s called Bess Nathan Rice Jewelry Studio Collections. It’s at 126 E. Napa Street just off the Plaza. I’d checked to be sure Bess was going to be in that day as I’m crazy about her and her sensibility.
We were there and I was looking at some earrings that I thought would be perfect for Maggan and suggested she try them on.
“I don’t have pierced ears,” she said. Now how had I not noticed that before? She always wore great earrings!
At that point she pulled a jewelry box from her bag. She took the lid off and there were a bunch of clip earrings.
“I go to vintage shops. They’re the ones that have clip earrings and I brought these to show you!” she said.
Great minds think about accessories, right?
I have a client who doesn’t have pierced ears and the selection out there is not very bountiful. It had never occurred to me to go shopping for earrings for her at a vintage shop! Now I will.
And if you’re in Los Angeles and you want to check out Maggan’s favorite store it’s called Polka Dots and Moonbeams.

January 13, 2019 at 10:14 amBrenda, how did I miss this post? Well, it still speaks ‘current’ to me in early 2019! Thanks for the nod to clip earring wearing Fans. And yes, Polka Dots and Moonbeams is still in business according to online site. After my slow house move, I hope to have time for some travel. Southern California perhaps to see Vintage offerings? So much fun ends up in the sunny locales! This ties in to Brooch Love (from other posts). I just saw film, ‘On the Basis of Sex’ film and noted her repeating brooch plus some fashions that transported me to earlier times. I’ll bet that brooch has a story. I’m thinking that some Vintage cuff thread might be another linked theme. I mix Vintage and modern bangles/cuffs (like many do). Spring is coming and bare forearms will come forward. I”d love some Spring Preview ideas for accessories.
