Revisiting Misook for career wear and more

 

When Misook contacted me and offered to gift me an outfit, I was enthusiastic. In the earlier years of my career, I was always looking at Misook for clients who traveled a lot professionally or just needed easy, no-think work outfits. Misook’s pieces were comfortable, easy to wear, and easy to fit clients of all sizes. I remember coming close to buying and wearing Misook myself but hesitated. While I happily got them into clients’ wardrobes, I thought they might be too conservative for me in my fashion career. Never forgetting Misook’s quality and getting this invitation, I was curious to see if their product would suit my style now.

I opened the box last week and took the jacket out of its plastic bag, slipped it right on, and headed for the full-length mirror. I told my reflection, “Wow, this fits you perfectly.” Next, Russ saw it. “What a great jacket!” he said. I was kind of surprised because the last jacket he gave a rave review for was one in leopard print. Interesting

Next step: Play with it in my closet and wear it right away!

 

I wore the first outfit I created with the jacket to work on Monday. I met Erin, my trusty assistant and daughter, outside our client’s home. “Nice jacket!” was the first thing she said. I realized why: This is so her! Tailored, chic…of course! We entered our client’s home with our portable rolling rack ready to set it up for an outfit building session. My client said, “Ooh, nice jacket!” She reached over to touch it. I kid you not! Three postive reviews so far!

 

Monday’s Misook jacket styling details

In Monday’s styling of the Misook jacket I wanted a creative look.

 

 

I loved the idea of wearing the jacket with a full pant. I achieved that with my black Rag & Bone pant. I could easily see teaming it with a crisp white cotton collared blouse. I pulled out my long Chico blouse. The blouse is higher in the front than the back so it sticks out in the back but is even with the jacket in the front. I felt so chic in this version! Dare I say I felt like a magazine editor?

 

 

 

Tuesday’s Misook jacket styling details

Well, you know me. When I get something new I like to make great outfits with it right away and wear it within 24 hours. I was happy with Monday’s outfit but I have to be able to style something three ways before I feel like a garment earns hanging space in my closet.

 

 

So on Tuesday I took the Misook jacket and aimed to make a more urban looking outfit. My inspiration was a pair of Lanvin almost-olive-colored flat boots. I was watching the PBS special called The Beatles Eight Days a Week-The Touring Years and had Beatle boots on my fashion radar. These boots were purchased at a consignment store and I hadn’t worn them yet this season. So working my way up from my feet, I added my Lafayette slim no-seam ankle pant.

 

 

I was so taken by the boot color that I went into my closet and pulled out a crinkle Petit Pois mushroom/olive long sleeved sheer crinkle T-shirt, also from a consignment store. I wore a black tank underneath it.

Then I went to my medium-sized handbag department and pulled out my mushroom Calleen Cordero bag from years back. I was in color heaven! I loved how the boot, the top, and the bag all shared these complex neutral colors. I felt a little tough-girl chic.

 

 

I added a gunmetal colored collar necklace to this outfit. It’s got a chainmail quality to it. There’s that urban note coming into play! This outfit made me feel a little rebellious, sassy. I’m getting things done!

Wednesday’s Misook jacket styling details

Come Wednesday, I was ready to come up with outfit #3. This time I was wearing the Misook slate gray knit sleeveless tank. The color of it is perfect with the Multi Topstitch Misook jacket. Sometimes it’s the right thing to do to buy the coordinating pieces. This was true in this case. Although it would seem that you could put black under this jacket and call it a day, because it’s knit, it isn’t going to look the best. I favor the same type of knitting being paired together. I’ve been in so many closets where clients purchased one piece of knit clothing and no coordinating pieces and it makes it very difficult to make outfits with, even for me.

 

 

The white blouse had worked just fine because it was a high contrast to the jacket. And the crinkled mushroom/olive T-shirt blended with that mushroom color in the topstitching of the jacket. Blending is fine. But I have to admit having the coordinating piece made putting this outfit together so easy. Sometimes I make things more challenging for myself than they need to be. My older, wiser self says, “Buy the matching piece. Life is short!”

 

 

The pant I’m wearing is also by Misook. It’s their techno pant. What makes it different from my Lafayette black pant is that it’s got a stitched seam down the center which makes the pant more professional and sharp. This is probably the sharpest, most crisp way of wearing this jacket so far. I added one of my Sol Sisters necklaces that has a leather tassel and some findings that have a sparkle to them. I’m wearing a simple gunmetal bangle and gunmetal earrings as well. It’s all a very clean, uncluttered look.

 

 

In the styling of this outfit, I brought out the structured Zac Posen black bag with a bow (a TJ Maxx find) from my big handbag department. I’m wearing shiny patent leather ankle boots by The Office of Angela Scott. This combo means business. Hard edges and structure send a more formal message. If I were in a board meeting and wanted people to listen to my proposal, I’d wear this. As an image consultant, I like to show up to a client wearing something that resonates with her. My clients who work in corporate settings could relate to this outfit.

So I have proved to myself that this Misook Topstitch jacket has earned space in my closet. I know you’re going to ask me which one is my favorite. I feel like “me” in every single one of this looks. I wouldn’t be able to choose!
